2014 After School Care
Our school will be running a before and after school care programme from the beginning of Term 1, 2014. We will offer both before school and after school childcare.  Please complete this survey if you are interested in this service.

21st November Coast Athletics Champs - Whangaparaoa College 9.00am - 2.00pm.  Our senior students Years 5 - 8 will be representing our school at this event.  We wish them all the best. We will post the timetable for this day on our website.  Students who have been chosen to represent us will bring home a permission slip tonight.

LABOUR DAY - SCHOOL CLOSED MONDAY 28TH OCTOBER
No Dogs Allowed in School during school opening hours. We have been reasonably liberal on this, but have found recently a couple of situations where children have been frightened by dogs that have been brought into school (on leads). We ask that parents please refrain from walking their dogs in the school grounds (whether on leads or not).
Please do not enter the grounds during school time with a dog.
Reminder Teacher Only Day - Friday 8th November.  School will be closed but we will be operating child care from the school.  Please contact the office, office@ghs.school.nz should you require care.

13th September - Walkie Talkie Walkathon, the whole school will be walking in classes around Shakepeare Park and our local area.  All funds raised will go towards our school library. Sponsorship forms have been sent home with your child.

20th August - Japanese Students arrive from Ritsumeikan Moriyama, Japan for 3 weeks.
21st August - Photolife Class Photos will be taken.  Please ensure students are wearing correct Gulf Harbour School uniform - teal polo shirts and tidy footwear.
21st August - Gulf Harbour School Parent Morning Tea.  Staffroom 9.00 - 10.30am. Pre-schoolers welcome.
21st August - Playtime Coffee Group Room's 8 & 9, 9.00am - midday. $1/child + $1 donation/coffee. Run by volunteer local Mums. Sarah 021 0294 9801 or Rebecca 021 0239 2969 for further details.
23rd August - Wheels Day, skateboards and scooters only.  Students must wear helmets, knee and elbow pads optional.
We currently have a number of students who are away with either the flu (very high temperatures) or a tummy bug. Please ensure you keep your child home should they show any signs of being unwell.

Tuesday 13th & Wednesday 14th August Year 7 Production - SPACE - 7.00pm at Whangaparaoa College.  Door sales available $10 Adults, $5 Child.  Cafe open with delicious hot and cold food: sushi, club sandwiches, carrot and chocolate cakes, mars bar slice, scones, hot savouries, drinks including wine, confectionary, popcorn.  CASH only please.  Come along for an early dinner before the show, open from 6.00pm and during intermission.
15th August Annual School Cross Country Day for Whole School - Shakespear Park. Sausages, drinks and iceblocks will be available for sale. Please bring CASH. Years 0 - 2 will be using private transport, Years 3 - 8 are walking, departing school at 9.15am and returning from the park at 2.00pm. Please ensure your child wears their team colour, sports shoes are advised.  Children are to bring plenty to drink and warm clothes to put on afterwards.
19th August Year's 6, 7 & 8 Parents Evening, 7.00pm in the Staffroom. This is an evening dedicated to your child's preadolescent years. Cake & coffee provided.

8th August - Wheels Day. Encourage your child to scooter or skateboard to school, helmets are compulsory, safety pads optional. At lunchtime they will get the chance to ride around the courts.
9th August - Mufti Red Nose Day Oddlympics. Dress up in RED mufti and bring a donation in support of Cure KIDS, a fundraiser to help children who live with life threatening illnesses. Baking will be available for sale at morning tea time.  We would appreciate any help please of baking to sell,  please leave at the Food Tech Room before 9.00am.  Food Day lunch orders will be as usual with order forms going home on Thursday and all proceeds going to Cure KIDS.
12th August - Bootcamp Meet and Greet. 9.15am in Rooms 8 & 9. Come along on Monday and meet Michelle who is dedicated to creating fun and fantastic exercise programmes that everyone can participate in regardless of fitness levels.  Bring your friends and pre-schoolers for a no obligation "meet and greet" in a relaxed atmosphere, where your questions will be answered.

A school Board is accountable for student progress and achievement to its parents and community. The Board has the overall responsibility for the school.  This includes legal obligations covering curriculum, property, personnel, finance, health and safety.

Can you help us?
The last two weekends the school has been broken into with computers stolen. Entry has been by the way of back windows. If you are in the habit of evening walks and can include the school in your walk it would be appreciated.  In the event of  anything untoward occurring please contact the Police or our security company 426 4255 – number on display within the school.
Poppy Day - we will have year 7 & 8 students selling poppies before and after school from 15th - 18th April at both entrances to the school.

Welcome to our new Weekly Porthole which you will receive via email every Tuesday morning.  It will contain information regarding activites and events happening at our school during that week.  The week runs from a Tuesday to the following Monday.  Of course with the Easter break occuring when our 2nd Porthole is due out, it will be sent on  Wednesday 3rd April.  We would love feedback on the new Porthole and hope it will help with the communication re happenings at school.

  • 26th March Year 8 Girls Immunisation - only students who have returning the signed forms will be given the immunisation.
  • 28th March Food Day - due to the Easter break our Food Day will be Thursday. Order forms will be sent home on Wednesday. We would appreciate please, any help with home baking, an Easter theme would be exciting for the kids. Please take to the Food Tech room.
